Once again weather worries threatened, with rain and cold winds early on boxing day morning but it fined up during the run to give reasonably good conditions - cloudy but not too hot or cold. Young Hamish Carson set a new course record, beating Al Cross's time of last year, while Rupert Watson also managed to eclipse Kevin Waters's record for walking the course. Hamish and Rupert took away the winners' bottles of wine, donated by Tinakori Lodge, together with UK visitor Sara Bishopp who was the first woman back. Sara arrived pretty as a picture with blood around both knees and one shoulder, having taken a tumble in the ascent of the western hills, but was undaunted enough to finish a minute or so behind Jill Westenra's record time set last year.
By the way we took the opportunity this year to measure the course, with the help of the Paparangi Old Flakes mountain bikers, and I am sure you will all be pleased to know you ran/walked 21.95km. I'm certain that's worth a couple of extra mince pies or a slice or two of left over Christmas Cake.
