Report
2005 saw the most "summer like" weather ever encountered for the h2h journey run - warm and sunny! 93 runners and walkers
experienced the new course finishing at Te Whiti park in Lower Hutt. The winners' bottles of wine (donated by Tinkori Lodge)
were taken by first time entrant Martin Lukes and Australian Commonwealth Games Marathon contender Kate Smyth. Both set
blazing times of 1:29:02 and 1:43:11 respectively, which will prove tough to beat for runners in future years. Martin was
pushed along by Wellington Harriers runner Tom Owens who in the end finished just 38 seconds off the first place getter. In the
women's grade notable local runner Dawn Ashkettle-Smyth took second place. The first walker home was Andrew Shelley, who took
the specially selected deck chair which was donated by a local walker as the most suitable prize. A special mention for
well known local competitor Ian Priest who managed this year's most creative interpretation of the course with a 4km
scenic detour via the Old Coach Road, accompanied by Mark Pickering. Some people just can't get enough!
