course description

  • 11.8km long course.
  • Packed full of scenery and history.
  • Roads will NOT BE CLOSED SO ALL ROAD RULES APPLY.
  • Start at Ben Burn Park Karori, and run up Campbell Street to the Scout Hall by the Sanctuary fence (1km mark).
  • Race climbs through regenerating bush to the summit of Wrights Hill (356 metres at 2.1km) and through rough track to rejoin the sanctuary fence line at 2.7km
  • The race route follows the Sanctuary fence, undulating gently before dropping to "the Glade" at the southern end of the Sanctuary at 4.2km, followed immediately by a 100m climb to the Brooklyn side.
  • From here it's a fast run past the Meridian Energy Wind Turbine (370m at 6.1km) down the famous roller coaster past Denton Park and down to the Sanctuary entrance via a short steep section of bush track, past a couple of houses to Waiapu Road (160m at 9km)
  • A brief descent to historic St John's Pool, across the Kaiwharawhara stream, is followed by a zigzag climb through the bush on the Karori side, with the last km following the Sanctuary fence line back to the Scout Hall. Another 1km to the finish line back at Ben Burn Park. And a WELL DESERVED REST!!!!
